HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
(HEAP)

This is a federally funded program that assists the client with payment of electricity, gas, oil, coal, propane or wood expenses necessary for heating. HEAP is a program based on income eligibility, and the guidelines usually change from one year to the next. The program generally runs from November - April. Applications must be filed annually. When the season begins, interested clients should contact the Office for the Aging for information.

WEATHERIZATION, REFERRAL AND PACKAGING PROGRAM
(WRAP)

This program is available for seniors who are income eligible for HEAP, whether or not they received a HEAP benefit. The WRAP program links seniors with energy related resources in Schoharie County in an effort to decrease energy costs and increase quality of living. Weatherization may involve installing insulation and/or receiving an energy audit.
There are resources in the community that may provide home improvement grants, or low interest loans for income eligible home owners. The Office for the Aging's WRAP representative can be contacted for further information on local resources to assist the homeowner or renter.
